Wellness Goes Mainstream: Glanbia Brings Science-Backed Expertise to Pharmacists

Nutrition advice has never been more accessible – or more confusing. Social media, podcasts
and online forums have made information available at every turn, but they’ve also blurred the
line between evidence-based guidance, personal opinion and misinformation. Whether
consumers have questions about protein, fiber, or GLP-1 medications, many could benefit from
a trusted healthcare professional to help make sense of it all.

Pharmacists have a growing opportunity to help patients separate evidence from hype and
make informed nutrition decisions. As some of the most accessible healthcare professionals,
pharmacists can play an important role in making credible, science-based information easier to
understand.

Glanbia invests in product innovation and rigorous quality standards, working alongside food
scientists and registered dietitians to help translate evolving nutrition science into products
consumers can trust.

That scientific foundation provides pharmacists with another evidence-informed resource as
nutrition conversations continue to expand. Glanbia has partnered with International
Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) to equip pharmacists with science-based nutrition education,
launching alongside a companion video for the Pharmacy for All initiative.

Nutrition Needs During Weight Loss

Use of GLP-1 medications has grown rapidly since 2019 1 , and today nearly 12% of U.S. adults 2
have used a GLP-1 for weight loss. For people using these medications, reduced appetite can
make it harder to get enough protein, making it increasingly important that each meal provides
meaningful nutritional value. Research suggests up to 40% of GLP-1-related weight loss may
come from lean mass rather than fat. 3

Pharmacists can help patients understand that preserving lean muscle during weight loss
requires adequate protein intake and nutrient-dense foods. Pharmacists can also help identify
protein supplements that align with individual dietary needs and preferences.

Fueling Recovery and Active Lifestyles

Protein and creatine use has become mainstream among active adults who want to get more
out of their workouts. For people focused on strength training and muscle support, protein and
creatine play different but complementary roles. Whey protein is a high-quality, complete protein
that provides the essential amino acids muscles need to support maintenance and recovery.
Interest in creatine is also growing well beyond traditional sports audiences. Over time,
with consistent resistance training, it supports muscle strength, power and explosive
performance.

Pharmacists can help consumers understand that protein and creatine serve different purposes
and that product selection should align with individual health goals, activity level and overall
nutrition needs.

Healthy Aging and Muscle Health

Age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia) contributes to reduced strength, mobility and
independence, making adequate protein intake an increasingly important component of healthy
aging.

Protein provides amino acids that help support muscle health as people age. When paired with
regular movement and resistance training, adequate protein intake can support strength and
function across the lifespan. Pharmacists can help older adults identify practical ways to
incorporate protein throughout the day through nutrient-dense meals, snacks or supplemental
formats.

Creatine also plays a role in healthy aging. When paired with consistent resistance
training, it helps support muscle strength and protect against age-related muscle loss.
 Quality, Credibility and Transparency Matter
The noise around nutrition is loud, and the aisles are crowded. That abundance can be
overwhelming, particularly in categories where product standards, formulations and labeling
may vary.

Pharmacists can help consumers evaluate products by looking beyond front-of-pack claims and
considering factors such as ingredient transparency, manufacturing standards, quality
assurance, third-party certification and scientific substantiation.

Optimum Nutrition and ISOPURE, both part of Glanbia, are backed by decades of nutrition
expertise, owned manufacturing and rigorous quality standards.

Through its partnership with FIP, Glanbia is also providing educational resources designed to
help pharmacists navigate common questions related to protein, creatine, weight management
and muscle health.

The Pharmacy for All hub includes practical tools, including a protein calculator, to help
individuals better understand their protein needs and support more informed conversations with
health care professionals.

As nutrition conversations increasingly happen outside the physician’s office, pharmacists are
well positioned to help bridge the gap between evolving science and everyday questions.
Through the Pharmacy for All initiative, FIP and Glanbia are working to support that role, making
credible nutrition education and practical tools more accessible to pharmacists navigating an
increasingly complex wellness landscape.

Glanbia is a better nutrition company, delivering brands and ingredients that help people lead
healthier, more active lives. Glanbia’s portfolio includes award-winning performance and lifestyle
